Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has been asked by Muslims in the state to work towards ensuring that his successor in the 2018 governorship election was Muslim.
Fayose was asked to ensure that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), fielded a Muslim candidate.
The Chief Imam of Ekiti State, Alhaji Jamiu Kewulere Bello, made the demand on Friday during the Eid-el-Adha prayer at the Muslims’ prayer ground along Poly Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Bello stated that Fayose was known for keeping his promises and for being a great achiever.
He pointed out that Ekiti had not produced a Muslim governor since the state was created 20 years ago.
“We urge you, sir, if any Muslim is interested in the governorship from your party, kindly support him to fulfil his ambition”, the chief imam said.
Responding, Fayose Promised to fulfil the desires of Muslims in the best possible way, while also urging Islamic clerics to always speak truth to power and to preach the values of justice and equality.
