Kabwe Warriors have registered their first win of the season, ending a ten-match winless run after they defeated Nchanga Rangers 3-0 in a rescheduled week 9 fixture played at the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium on Wednesday.
Coincidentally, Kabwe Warriors’ previous victory came on 3 December 2016 when they defeated Nchanga Rangers 3-2 in a rescheduled game.
Jacob Phiri opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Lameck Kafwaya, who was later sent off, added two goals in the 41st and 65th minutes.
The victory pushed Chintu Kampamba’s side up to fifteenth with 11 points, two points above the relegation and a point adrift of Nchanga Rangers.
There was also victory for Zesco United who moved up to second position on the standings thanks to Idriss Mbombo’s 26th minute goal in a rescheduled week 10 fixture at home to Real Nakonde.
And Red Arrows registered a second successive victory, the first time they have won back to back matches this season, after they defeated Buildcon 2-0 at Nkoloma Stadium.
Shadreck Malambo put the hosts in front in the 36th minute and second half substitute Lottie Nyimbili increased the advantage in the 80th minute to help Honour Janza’s move up to fourth with 18 points from eleven matches.
At Independence Stadium in Choma, Green Eagles had to come from behind to salvage a point as they drew 1-1 with nine-man Nkwazi.
Michael Bwalya gave the visitors the lead in the third minute and despite being reduced to nine men in the second half after Steward Chikandiwa and Zephenia Phiri were sent off, they looked like they would hold on for maximum points only for Spencer Sautu to equalise in the 88th minute.
The result kept Green Eagles two points and a place above the relegation zone on 11 points while Nkwazi moved from twelfth to eleventh with 14 points.
